Charge at Home, Ready Every Morning

Just got an electric car, or thinking about one? Charging at home is the easiest way to keep it ready to go. A Level 2 home charger can fully charge most EVs overnight, so you wake up to a full battery every day.

Simpson Electric installs home EV chargers across Northern Colorado. We'll check that your panel can handle it, run a dedicated circuit and get you charging safely.

  • You're running an extension cord to your car

  • Your current charger keeps tripping a breaker

How It Works

  1. Tell us about your car and where you park.

  2. We check your panel to see how much capacity you have.

  3. Get a clear quote with the best setup for your home.

  4. We install and pull permits. Clean wiring, code-compliant, inspected.

  5. Test and charge. We make sure everything works before we leave.

Level 1 vs. Level 2 Charging

Level 1 charging uses a regular 120V outlet. It works, but it's slow, often adding only a few miles of range per hour. Level 2 charging uses a 240V circuit and can add many times more range per hour. For most drivers, that's the difference between topping off overnight and never quite catching up.

Will My Panel Handle an EV Charger?

An EV charger is one of the biggest loads in your home. Many newer homes have room to spare, but older panels and 100-amp services often don't. We'll check your panel's capacity first and tell you honestly whether you need an upgrade. In some cases, a load management device can avoid a panel upgrade entirely.

EV Charger FAQs

What's the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?

Level 1 uses a regular outlet and is slow. Level 2 uses a 240V circuit and can fully charge most cars overnight.

Will I need a panel upgrade?

Not always. We'll check your panel's capacity first and tell you honestly.

Should I get a plug-in or hardwired charger?

Both work well. Hardwired chargers are often a bit cleaner and can deliver more power. We'll help you decide.

Can you install a charger I bought myself?

Yes. We install most major brands.

Are there rebates for home chargers?

Sometimes. Check with your utility, like Loveland Water and Power, Fort Collins Utilities, Estes Park Power and Communications or Xcel Energy.

How long does installation take?

Most installs are done in a day. Jobs that need a panel upgrade may take longer.

Can I charge outdoors?

Yes. We'll install a weather-rated charger and wiring for outdoor use.
